Babette Schom

Creative Director & Instructor

Babette found her passion for dance when she was only three years old. She studied ballet under the direction of Mia Klinger and jazz under Sha’Ran Marshall, former Cleveland Cavaliers Dancer. She then went on to join Klinger’s Cuyahoga Valley Youth Ballet at the age of nine for three seasons. That same year, Babette auditioned and was accepted into Miller South, a visual and performing arts school in Akron, Ohio where she was able to deepen her knowledge of dance and dance history over the next five years.

Babette began to work closely with Andrea Love of Love 2 Dance Studio in Akron, Ohio where she learned how to instruct youth classes and began her competitive dance career. While Andrea and Babette’s mother, Leyla Soleil, were developing the Dance du Soleil company together, Babette was traveling to competitions across the nation for jazz, lyrical, tap, and bellydance and working at the family dance studio, Dance du Soleil in Columbus, Ohio.

After high school Babette relocated to Atlanta where she began her professional dance career, gigging at restaurants, weddings, and parties. She was honored to perform twice with Bellydance Superstar Jillina’s Bellydance Evolution on tour and in Atlanta. She became a dancer for the Atlanta Blaze, Atlanta’s Major League Lacrosse team under the direction of Brittiney Wall, former Atlanta Falcon’s Cheerleader.

Not only does Babette have a strong passion for dance, she’s also a childcare expert. Having been a nanny for many years, Babette deepend her love for fostering children's development. Babette is excited to share her love and knowledge of children and dance at the same time with the new kids program at AFD!
